Family Rights, Individual Rights, and Quality of Life:

Family rights, individual rights, and quality of life are inextricably linked. Families deserve safety and security and individuals deserve a government that doesn’t meddle in personal decision-making. Quality of life ensures that Coloradans and their families have a great place to live.

Family Rights

  • Families should be secure that sex offenders and other predators are accurately and timely identified in their neighborhoods when they are released from prison. These offenders should complete full sentences and be kept out of neighborhoods as long as the law allows. It should be easy to discover specifics on sex offender crimes – citizens should not have to pay to get this information.
  • Recreation is critical to healthy families – recreation keeps us fit and it’s fun. Parks provide welcome relief from the hurly burly of our busy lives. Our parks and their recreation fields and equipment need our maximum support.

Individual Rights

  • The state should not interfere with access to contraception; emergency contraception should be available timely and over the counter from pharmacists.
  • The state should not interfere with individuals or families making their own choices about medical care or therapies. Intrusive state government in these realms is inappropriate and harmful to our right to make our own decisions about our own lives.
  • Eminent domain should not be used for property takings for non public purposes.

Quality of Life

  • Stem cell research is the leading edge science to conquering many of the world’s most debilitating chronic diseases: diabetes, Parkinson’s, rheumatoid arthritis, and Alzheimer’s. This research may take years, but the outcomes will be profound for millions of people stricken by the hardship, pain, and suffering coming from these illnesses.

I strongly support stem cell research and other science efforts to cure these diseases. I don’t just speak from my knowledge. My sister, father, and mother all have suffered from Parkinson’s, RA, or diabetes – it’s not pretty and it’s not quality of life. It’s a lot of suffering that goes from bad to worse.
  • State parks and lands should be protected from encroachments; GOCO lottery funds should be used for land acquisitions to secure Colorado’s most prized asset—a natural world in which to experience the refuge of nature.
  • Our neighborhoods are precious. They connect us through our community. State government may support local governments, but should not dictate to local governments in their decision-making.
  • People should feel free and unimpeded in pursuit of their religious beliefs. The government should not interfere in the practice of faith; the government should not support one faith above another.
