Immigration and Insourcing:
Illegal immigration does not serve the interests of the country,
the state, Jeffco, or illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration of
workers is really insourcing. Insourcing lowers
employer labor costs but increases taxpayer costs
as employers pass medical care and education expense off to taxpayers.
- The Federal government must control illegal immigration, including
border patrol, deporting illegal immigrants convicted of crimes,
and expediting document checking for employers.
- Employers should use the federal program in place to verify
employee documents and eligibility for work.
- A foreign worker program for specified industries should be
developed for workers to enter legally to perform work. This is
particularly important for the agriculture industry.
- The total cost of foreign workers should be the responsibility
of employers, particularly medical coverage.
Colorado has passed the toughest anti-illegal immigration laws
in the country. Now it’s time for the federal government to
step up and do its job. The feds should not fob off its responsibilities
onto the states – illegal immigration is the premier example
of a federal job not done.
